After winning their first six games, Liverpool are already assured of a top-16 place in the Champions League, but the leaders should confirm a top-eight spot with victory over Lille at Anfield on Tuesday.

The Reds' fine season continued with a 2-0 victory at Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday and another success looks likely in Europe.

The French side, who are third in Ligue 1 after a 2-1 win over Nice on Friday, are also in contention to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League automatically after four wins from their six games in the League phase.

Team news

With Liverpool already virtually assured of a top-eight place, Arne Slot could give some first-team regulars a rest on Tuesday.

Diogo Jota is unlikely to be fit after he picked up an injury against Nottingham Forest last week which caused him to miss the trip to Brentford on Saturday, while Joe Gomez is still on the sidelines for the hosts.

Lille are set to be without injured trio Edon Zhegrova, Tiago Santos and Ethan Mbappe for the trip to Anfield, while Matias Fernandez-Pardo is a major doubt for Tuesday's tie.

The stats

Liverpool only need a draw against Lille to secure a top-eight finish and a place in the last-16, with the Reds having won five of their six games in the competition this season to nil.

The Reds have been level at half-time before going on to win their last three Champions League matches.

Lille are one of six teams in the table between third and eighth place who are all on 13 points.

The Ligue 1 side are on a 21-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Prediction

Liverpool had to rely on two injury-time goals from Darwin Nunez to dramatically see off the Bees in the Premier League on Saturday as they once again finished strongly.

Coming good after the break has been a regular occurrence this season under Slot and in their last three European games Liverpool have gone in level at half-time before overpowering their opposition in the second period.

Another cagey first half could play out at Anfield on Tuesday before Slot's team get the job done as they look to confirm their place in the last-16.

Lille's long unbeaten run means they should approach the clash with some confidence and they remain in with a chance of finishing in the top eight too after consecutive victories by one goal over Bologna and Sturm Graz in their last two Champions League outings.
