Juventus entertain PSV Eindhoven for a second time this season on Tuesday, with Thiago Motta’s men looking to reprise September’s 3-1 victory in the Champions League knockout phase play-off first leg.

The Bianconeri finished a lowly 20th in the League phase, winning only two of their eight matches.

But they were too good for Peter Bosz’s side on matchday one as the Dutch champions took time to get going in this competition.

However, PSV finished strongly by winning four of their last five matches to secure 14th place and home advantage for the second leg.

Team news

Motta will be missing several first-choice defenders for this clash with Pierre Kalulu yet to return from a muscular problem he sustained against Benfica earlier this month and ACL victims Bremer and Juan Cabal still sidelined.

Andrea Cambiaso is nursing an ankle problem, so Nicolo Savona will probably start at left-back despite the recent acquisition of Lloyd Kelly on loan from Newcastle.

Fellow new signing Randal Kolo Muani should get the nod to start up front ahead of Dusan Vlahovic with Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik not expected back from a calf issue until next month.

As for PSV, Bosz is dealing with a new defensive headache after centre-back Adamo Nagalo suffered an injury in Saturday’s Eredivisie draw with Willem II.

Given Olivier Boscagli is currently nursing a muscular problem, the coach looks likely to recall Ryan Flamingo to feature alongside Armando Obispo in the centre with left-back Mauro Junior also to return after a rest.

Malik Tillman (ankle), Ricardo Pepi (knee) and Richard Ledezma (head) have been ruled out while new loan signing Tyrell Malacia looks set to drop down to the bench.

The stats

Juventus have lost five of their last eight home Champions League matches.

The Bianconeri have drawn 13 of their 24 Serie A matches this season and have let slip 17 points from winning positions.

PSV Eindhoven are undefeated in their last six matches across all competitions and have won four of their last five Champions League games.

But the Dutch champions are without a win in their last five games against Serie A sides (D2 L3).

Prediction

There has been plenty of chopping and changing in PSV’s defensive ranks recently and it showed on Saturday when substitute left-back Wessel Kuhn was caught out for Willem II’s equaliser.

Junior’s return should add some stability to their backline, but it might still not be able to cope with the pace and penetration offered by Kolo Muani.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt star has made a huge impact since joining Juventus in January following a miserable spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman became the first player to score in his first three games for the Bianconeri and the first to score five times in his first three Serie A appearances.

Kolo Muani struggled to find the back of the net in the Champions League for PSG, managing only one goal in 14 appearances in Europe for the French champions.

However, only six of those games were starts and he was often deployed out wide by a coach who seemed to lack belief in his abilities.

Kolo Muani is now showing what he can do when he has the full confidence of his coach, who has handed the France international additional responsibility by making him Juventus’s designated penalty-taker.
