Danny Rose saves Grimsby with late goal denying Gillingham
Danny Rose’s last-gasp goal rescued a point for Grimsby as they drew 1-1 with Gillingham in a scrappy affair.
Doug Tharme’s own goal appeared to be sending the Gills home with three points until Rose popped up in the seventh minute of stoppage time to deny them.
Kieran Green had two good chances for the hosts in the first half, heading marginally wide with his second opportunity from a Charles Vernam cross.
Gillingham took the lead in the 35th minute as Tharme swung his foot and sliced a clearance from a low cross into his own net.
The visitors had not had a shot on target in the first half but went in at the break a goal ahead.
Green almost made it two own goals for the hosts as his defensive header hit the crossbar early in the second half.
Gillingham were denied by the woodwork again as substitute Tim Dieng’s header bounced off the inside of Jordan Wright’s left upright.
Grimsby had their first shot of the second half in stoppage time, with Jason Dadi Svanthorsson denied by Glenn Morris, but the latter could not stop Rose from converting at the near post late on.
