Transfer Talk: Guimaraes close to signing new Toon deal
Bruno Guimaraes is close to signing a contract extension at Newcastle.
The Brazilian midfielder, 25, has evolved into one of the Premier League's best players since moving to St James' Park from Lyon in January 2022 and has attracted interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea.
He is a mainstay in Eddie Howe's first-choice XI, scoring four goals and assisting five more in 32 top-flight appearances last season as the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, there has been significant progress in negotiations between Guimaraes and Newcastle, with an agreement now on the verge of being completed.
There are reportedly still some final details to sort but "positive secret talks" in the last 10 days should see the 12-cap international extend his stay on Tyneside.
The Sun claim Guimaraes will agree a deal until 2028 and is set to earn around £120,000-a-week in wages.
Back in July, the South American maestro said there were "doubts" over the contract situation, telling reporters in New Jersey: "There is no news. I want to stay but the doubt is ongoing. So, let's see."
But Newcastle look set to keep hold of one of their prized assets — which would give the team a much-needed boost after a difficult start to the 2023-24 campaign.
