RB Leipzig to win

There is nothing to play for but pride on the final Champions League matchday for Sturm Graz and RB Leipzig but the Red Bulls should nonetheless make their mark in Austria.

At the end of an underwhelming Champions League campaign, Leipzig will want to finish on a high on Wednesday after beating Sporting CP 2-1 last midweek.

As for Sturm Graz, despite some friendly fixtures, they returned from a five-week winter break with a whimper last Tuesday, losing 5-0 to Atalanta on matchday seven of the Champions League.

Neither of these teams can now break into the 9th-24th positions and, while a dead-rubber could well be on the cards, Leipzig may look to use this contest as a confidence-booster.

Team news

Alexander Borkovic is sidelined with a serious cruciate ligament injury, having not featured for Sturm Graz since March last year.

Max Jonston is also out for the hosts.

Assan Ouedraogo and Benjamin Henrichs are unavailable for the visitors, while Andre Silva and Kevin Kampl are doubts and Xaver Schlager has been out for more than a month.

The stats

Leipzig have lost just one of their five games in 2025, beating Werder Bremen and Sporting and drawing with Bochum and Bayer Leverkusen in that run.

Sturm Graz have lost back-to-back competitive matches by an aggregate scoreline of 8-2, contributing to a record of six defeats in seven Champions League matches this term.

Including friendlies, Sturm Graz are winless in their last four contests, losing three of those games.

Prediction

It has not been a great season for Leipzig so far but Marco Rose looks determined to lead the Red Bulls out of the dark.

Their Champions League campaign has been a mess, starting with six straight defeats, but they were handed a tough fixture list, taking on Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Liverpool in their first three matches.

They at least defeated Sporting on matchday seven to give their fans something to cheer about and they also looked sharp in the Bundesliga on Saturday, holding highflyers Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-2 draw.

While any title title looks unlikely, a top-four berth is still in reach for Leipzig and they will want to continue their improved start to 2025.

As for Sturm Graz, they recently returned from a five-week winter break and could not have looked much rustier in their 5-0 humbling by Atalanta.

Striker Mika Biereth has departed the club for Monaco, hindering their attacking threat, and they too have lost six of their seven Champions League assignments this term.

Both teams have underwhelmed but Leipzig are the better on paper and can continue their upturn in form with a win at the 28 Black Arena.
