Liverpool to win & both to score

Having booked their Carabao Cup final spot with Thursday's 4-0 thrashing of Tottenham in the second leg of their semi-final, Liverpool turn their attentions to an FA Cup fourth-round trip to Championship strugglers Plymouth.

The Reds are setting the pace in the Premier League title race and they are in the last 16 of the Champions League, so manager Arne Slot is already having to mute any noise surrounding them landing an unprecedented quadruple.

Slot is likely to ring the changes on the back of that midweek examination but, such is their strength in depth, this still looks a daunting prospect for Championship basement boys Plymouth.

The Pilgrims snapped a 15-game league winless run with last weekend's 2-1 victory at home to West Brom but they remain four points adrift of second-tier safety.

Plymouth did stun Premier League opponents in round three, winning 1-0 at Brentford, but this Liverpool side represents a completely different proposition.

Team news

Plymouth are without Joe Edwards, Brendan Galloway and Kornel Szucs for the visit of Liverpool.

The Reds, meanwhile, are missing Trent Alexander-Arnold through injury and Slot is expected to make a number of changes. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were both omitted from Liverpool's squad in their 4-0 win over Accrington in round three.

The stats

Plymouth have won only two of their last 17 games in all competitions.

Plymouth have scored in 11 of their last 13 home matches.

Four of Liverpool's last five games have featured at least three goals and the Reds have conceded in six of their last 10.

Liverpool have lost only two of their last 34 matches in all competitions, winning five of their last six.

Prediction

With the final Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park coming up on Wednesday, Slot is expected to rest up some of his leading assets for this FA Cup fourth-round trip to Plymouth.

Even a weakened Liverpool side should be too strong for the Championship's bottom club but a disrupted defence would give Plymouth hope of getting on the scoresheet.

The Pilgrims have failed to score in only two of their last 13 league games at Home Park and, while Liverpool have been utterly dominant this season, they are penetrable.

The Reds have conceded in nine of their last 13 away games and although their attacking class should tell, Plymouth supporters may be able to celebrate a goal of their own.
