Parker will savour Cherries’ sweet success

Bournemouth boss Scott Parker wants to enjoy every second of his side’s Premier League promotion.

Kieffer Moore’s late strike secured a 1-0 victory over fellow high-fliers Nottingham Forest last night, sealing the Cherries' second-place Championship finish in the process.

Former Fulham manager Parker, 41, only replaced Jonathan Woodgate last summer and intends to take time to reflect on his impressive achievements during a memorable maiden campaign at the Vitality Stadium.

Parker said: "I struggle to enjoy moments. Every other day you then think about what's next. It's the same now.

"But I said to my family after the last time I got promoted with Fulham, that I'm going to enjoy the moment a bit more.

"I want to enjoy this moment. We've created an amazing memory for me, the family, the players and the young players have created an amazing memory and we'll enjoy it."

Ten Hag perfect for Red Devils

Brighton defender Joel Veltman believes his former boss Erik ten Hag is the "perfect match" for the Manchester United hotseat.

Seagulls star Veltman, 30, played a key role under Ten Hag at Ajax during a stint which included a league and cup double in 2018-19, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

The Dutch manager, 52, will take charge at Old Trafford this summer and Veltman believes his countryman can bring the good times back to the struggling Red Devils.

Veltman said: "I think it's a good choice only because he's tactically really good and I think that's the most important thing that they need right now

"They have the major players. Every player showed already they are amazing and can perform well in this league at the highest level, so they just need a gaffer who is like, ‘Guys, you have to do this, this and this’.

"He needs time of course, but I think he's probably the perfect match."

Maradona shirt soars at auction

The shirt worn by Diego Maradona during the 'Hand of God' World Cup game has sold for over £7million
The shirt worn by Diego Maradona during the 'Hand of God' World Cup game has sold for over £7million

The shirt worn by Diego Maradona when netting his iconic 1986 World Cup brace against England has sold for a record £7.1million.

It becomes the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia in history following a two-week bidding war hosted by respected auction house Sothebys.

Maradona, who passed away in November 2020, famously sunk the Three Lions with two legendary goals dubbed the 'Hand of God' and the 'goal of the century'.

Ex-England midfielder Steve Hodge was the owner of the shirt having swapped with the Argentine at full-time and had recently allowed it to be housed and displayed at the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Initially estimated to fetch around £4m, the final figure paid was actually a whopping £7,142,500.

Gunners unveil Miedema statue

A statue of Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema has been placed outside the Emirates Stadium ahead of tonight’s historic North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.

The Women’s Super League clash is the first ever meeting between the local rivals at the Gunners’ home ground and the club have paired with adidas to mark the occasion.

Fans can have their picture taken alongside the statue until 9am tomorrow morning, with the design part of adidas’ wider Support Is Everything campaign which aims to inspire the next generation.

Dutch forward Miedema is the WSL’s all-time top goalscorer with 74 strikes and has netted on 14 occasions this term to keep her side in the hunt for a 16th league crown.

Victory is required against Spurs tonight to take the title race to the final day, with Chelsea in the box seat to secure a third straight domestic triumph.

Foxes must embrace Roma challenge

Brendan Rodgers says his Leicester players must try to enjoy their daunting trip to face Roma in the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday.

The Foxes held Jose Mourinho’s men to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi-final last week to leave the tie delicately poised.

But with a ferocious atmosphere expected in the Italian capital, the Serie A side are favourites to progress — not that Rodgers is throwing in the towel.

The Northern Irishman, 49, said: "You have to go and enjoy these nights. We knew we were going into tough environments at this level.

"This is another step forward mentally in the maturation of the team. It’s a very young team to be playing at this level.

"We have to embrace the challenge. We have won games before in these circumstances so we will look to go out there with no fear."

The winners will face either Feyenoord or Marseille later this month in the final, with the Dutch outfit 3-2 up going into tomorrow's encounter at the Stade Velodrome.
