Gateshead maintain unbeaten start to new season after draw at Halifax
Gateshead maintained their unbeaten start to the Vanarama National League season despite being forced to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Halifax at The Shay.
After a goalless first half, it did not take long for Gateshead to open the scoring when Owen Oseni broke the deadlock inside 60 seconds of the restart.
Gateshead’s lead only lasted two minutes as Halifax pulled level – Angelo Cappello’s cross was flicked on by Will Smith and Adam Senior was waiting at the back post to smash home the equaliser.
Halifax were inches away from taking the lead in the 56th minute following a slick counter attack as Jack Evans aimed to put Jamie Cooke through on goal, but midfielder Regan Booty came across to clear a certain goal.
Gateshead had a chance to win it, but Tom Whelan’s curling goalbound effort was palmed away by Sam Johnson to send both sides home with a point apiece.
