Uzoho has night to remember

Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper and boyhood Manchester United fan Francis Uzoho could not hide his delight despite losing 1-0 to the Red Devils at Old Trafford last night.

The Nigerian stopper, 23, had a night to remember at the Theatre of Dreams after making an astonishing 12 saves during the Cypriot side’s Europa League Group E clash last night.

Despite Uzoho’s resistance eventually being broken by Scott McTominay’s 93rd-minute winner, he refused to let that ruin his mood.

He told BT Sport: "I am not disappointed. We had a good game, I am happy, it is not an easy stadium to play at.

"It is a dream come true. I have dreamed to play here for a long, long time.

"When I saw the draw, I wanted to play and I got the opportunity.

"Arguably it is the best I have played. I am proud of my team-mates though, because it is not a one-man job."

Luiz signs new Villa deal

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has ended speculation over his future by signing a new "long-term" contract with the club.

The Brazilian, 24, had been strongly linked with a move to Premier League leaders Arsenal, with his previous deal at Villa Park expiring next summer.

The Gunners failed with two deadline-day bids in the summer and were expected to make another move in January.

But that now looks unlikely after the nine-cap international put pen to paper to extend his stay with Steven Gerrard's men.

Williamson out for 'several weeks'

England captain Leah Williamson will be out of action for "several weeks" with a foot injury.

The Arsenal defender, 25, is set to undergo further assessment but it is unlikely she will need surgery.

Williamson missed the Lionesses' recent fixtures against the United States and Czech Republic after picking up the injury in training.

The issue will likely keep the Euro 2022-winning skipper out for clashes with Japan and Norway in November.

Klopp: Haaland not City's only threat

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he cannot focus too heavily on red-hot striker Erling Haaland as Manchester City have too many threats elsewhere.

The Norwegian sensation, 22, has scored 20 goals for the Citizens this season, 15 of which have come in nine Premier League games.

The Reds have picked up only 10 points from their first eight games this term as they welcome second-placed City to Anfield on Super Sunday.

"He’s probably the best striker in the world so we have to make sure he doesn’t get many balls. That’s what we will try," said Klopp.

Klopp said: "Against City, if you close Haaland down with too many players you open up gaps for all the other world-class players. It doesn’t make life easier.

"He has the combination of being pretty physical and technical. [He has] so many things to make a striker, and at City has some of the best players around him setting up goals."

Liverpool have faced Haaland on three previous occasions, twice in the Champions League in 2019 with FC Salzburg and this season in the Community Shield.

"Even when he was very young you could see the potential," added Klopp.

"I don’t think he started at Anfield but we were already pretty busy thinking about him and how to close him down. He scored anyway."

Full stream ahead of Barca

Barcelona will celebrate Drake becoming the first artist to surpass 50 billion streams on Spotify by wearing a special shirt in Sunday’s El Clasico.

The LaLiga giants are sponsored by the streaming service but will replace its logo with the OVO owl emblem of the Canadian rapper against Real Madrid.

It is part of Barca and Spotify’s aim to "bring football and music together".

Barcelona's vice-president of marketing: "Our alliance with Spotify goes beyond a mere commercial relationship. It is a strategic relationship through which we seek to bring together two worlds that can arouse emotion — namely music and football.

"This initiative is another example of this desire and the innovative spirit of our collaboration.

"For the first time in our history, we are replacing the name of our main sponsor on the front of the jersey with an internationally acclaimed artist, Drake.

"This initiative shows our potential to become a unique platform to offer experiences that help bring us closer to our fans while reaching out to new audiences around the world."

Larsson retires

Former Birmingham, Sunderland and Hull midfielder Sebastian Larsson has announced he will retire from football next month at the age of 37.

Larsson spent the majority of his career in England after being recruited into Arsenal’s academy at the age of 16, making three appearances for the Gunners.

But he made his name during more than 200 appearances for Birmingham before switching to Sunderland in 2011, spending six seasons on Wearside.

The 133-cap Sweden international had a season at Hull during the 2017-18 campaign before moving back home to AIK, where he will play the last five games of the Allsvenskan season before hanging up his boots.

He told AIK’s website: "Football has given me so much and has been a big part of my whole life. After a long process, I have now made the decision to end my active career after this season.

"My time at AIK has been absolutely fantastic. Moving home to Sweden and getting the opportunity to represent this beautiful club for four and a half years is one of the best decisions I’ve made."
