Lloris set for spell on the sidelines

Hugo Lloris is set to miss between six and eight weeks of Premier League action after picking up a knee injury in Tottenham's 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The club captain had a scan on his leg after he was on the wrong end of a heavy challenge in the closing stages of the match in North London.

And the results revealed some ligament damage that will keep him out for up to two months.

The French stopper will not require surgery but he will still be a big miss for Antonio Conte who is returning to England today following surgery to remove his gallbladder.

Fraser Forster is now expected to step up in net for Spurs who are making a charge towards the Champions League places in the second half of the season.

His first outing in Lloris' absence will come on Saturday when Conte's side travel to Leicester before lacing up to face AC Milan in the Champions League.

Huddersfield sack Fotheringham

Huddersfield have confirmed that Mark Fotheringham has left his role as head coach with immediate effect.

Fotheringham, 39, was appointed in September 2022 but was unable to lift the club away from the relegation zone.

The Terriers twice threw away the lead against fellow strugglers Blackpool, who were down to 10 men, last night as a 2-2 draw left them in 22nd, two points off bottom.

A statement on the club website read: "Huddersfield Town can confirm that it has terminated the contract of headcoach Mark Fotheringham with immediate effect.

"His assistant, Kenny Miller, has also left the Club.

"Narcis Pelach will take control of the team for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game at Wigan Athletic as interim head coach."

Huddersfield are winless since December and face rock-bottom Wigan this weekend.

Leeds not ready to Marsch on with new boss

Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani has said that he needs more time to appoint a replacement for the recently dismissed Jesse Marsch.

The Whites are set to face Manchester United without a manager tonight after the American lost his job due to a poor run of form in the Premier League.

Despite being given free rein in the January transfer market and the club bringing in Weston McKennie from Juventus, a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest proved costly and Jesse was given his marching orders.

Radrizzani took to Twitter to reply to fans who were asking about a replacement but is yet to provide the Yorkshire club with a new head coach.

On Tuesday, he said: "We are on it. Hopefully white smoke by tonight or [tomorrow] morning."

But the clock is continuing to tick and the chairman returned to the social media platform to give an update today.

He said: "Not yet. need more time. Let’s support the lads now. Keep you posted — Andrea Radrizzani."

Rayo Vallecano head coach Andoni Iraola and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot have emerged as favourites for the job after Carlos Corberan signed a new deal with West Brom this week.

Belgium appoint Tedesco

Former Schalke and RB Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco has been named as the new head coach of Belgium.

The post was vacated by Roberto Martinez following the Red Devils' group-stage exit at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Tedesco, 37, is best known for his excellent campaign with Schalke in 2017-18, where he guided the Bundesliga outfit to a second-place finish behind champions Bayern Munich.

Belgium will open their European Championship qualifying campaign with a trip to Sweden on March 24.

Speaking on his appointment, Tedesco said: "For me it is a great honour to be the new head coach of Belgium.

"I’m really looking forward to the task and I’m extremely motivated. I had a very good feeling right from the first conversation."

Gakpo's woes

Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman says Cody Gakpo's move to Liverpool last month may have come too soon.

Gakpo, 23, joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven after impressing for the Dutch national team at the World Cup, scoring three goals in five matches on the road to the quarter-finals.

But the versatile forward is yet to find the net for the Merseysiders in six appearances under Jurgen Klopp.

Ex-Everton and Barcelona boss Koeman, 59, said: "He has ended up in a team that is not doing well.

"If you don't score or you're not important and you don't win any matches, it's very difficult, especially for a young player.

"The level in England is higher than in the Netherlands, but they are also young boys, aren't they? Like [Ryan] Gravenberch going to Bayern [Munich] and not playing. Then that is difficult."

Hurst: Grimsby are living the dream

Paul Hurst celebrated with the Grimsby fans after last night's FA Cup win against Luton

Grimsby manager Paul Hurst admitted he is in shock after his side secured a 3-0 victory over Championship outfit Luton in last night's FA Cup fourth round replay.

League Two Grimsby held the Hatters to a 2-2 draw at Kenilworth Road in their first meeting and raced into an unassailable lead in the return fixture courtesy of first-half goals from Harry Clifton, Danilo Orsi and Danny Amos.

The visitors had no response to the Mariners and the win earned the hosts a place in the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 1996.

Hurst, 48, said: "That is what dreams are made of.

"If anyone would have genuinely told me they thought that would be the score I’d have told them they need to seek help.

"I was genuinely thinking the game wasn’t over. I was really pleased that we managed to keep a clean sheet.

"It’s a special evening for the football club. This place is amazing when it’s rocking, they’re loud and proud and this was for them."

Grimsby will now travel to Premier League strugglers Southampton as they look to progress to the quarter-finals.

Kompany questions City critics

Vincent Kompany says the football industry is not perfect amid allegations against Manchester City

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has questioned the motives of the club's critics after the Premier League champions were hit with 115 charges relating to financial rules.

Former Belgium centre-back Kompany, now coaching Championship leaders Burnley, won four league titles with the Citizens, two FA Cups and four League Cups.

And although he did not directly comment when asked about the potential sanctions, the 36-year-old expressed his frustrations around the criticism.

He said: "No doubt there’s a lot of righteousness in the world to come and tell you what you’ve done wrong, and then if everybody looks at themselves, I think the football industry in general is not one that can afford to point the finger too many times.

"I think all of you will have a little bit of a smile on your face to know what the football industry is about. I’m very sceptical when people start pointing fingers.

"Do the best for yourself and let’s try and improve all the time but I’m a little bit sceptical when the fingers get pointed easily."

Kompany's Clarets will host Fleetwood in the FA Cup fifth round following last night's 2-1 victory in their replay against Ipswich.
