Charlton moved into the League One play-off zone with a 2-0 home victory against Stevenage.

Goals from Matty Godden and Luke Berry either side of half-time extended the Addicks’ unbeaten home run to seven matches and moved them up to sixth.

Stevenage were the better side in the opening exchanges and Charlton goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer had to race out to foil Louis Appere, who attempted to go around him.

Jamie Reid also drilled into the side-netting from a tight angle for Stevenage, who had won their last three games coming into the contest.

The Addicks had struggled to fashion chances but they went ahead one minute before half-time.

Summer signing Godden started the attack with a deft flick to Tyreece Campbell and he finished it by converting Conor Coventry’s low cross at the near post for his 12th goal of the campaign.

And the hosts added a second in the 49th minute. Campbell’s left-footed attempt came back off the left post and Berry calmly converted the rebound.

Charlton, who have won four times in a five-match unbeaten run in the league, dominated the rest of the game but were unable to add to their lead.
