- Sheffield United’s last 11 games have featured no more than two goals

Under 1.5 goals

Two of the Championship's top six meet at Ewood Park on Saturday as Blackburn play host to Sheffield United.

Rovers head into the contest having won just one of their last five matches, while the visiting Blades snapped a two-game losing streak with victory over Stoke last time out.

Team news

Blackburn remain without defenders Hayden Carter and Scott Wharton due to knee injuries, while the game could come too soon for midfielder Zak Gilsenan, who is continuing his recovery from a thigh issue.

On-loan winger Amario Cozier-Duberry is also a doubt due to an ankle complaint.

United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic is suspended for the trip to Ewood Park after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Stoke.

Midfielder Tom Davies will also miss out due to his long-term hamstring issue.

The stats

Blackburn have won just one of their last five matches, but they remain unbeaten at Ewood Park in the league this season, collecting 16 points from a possible 18.

There have been just two goals scored across Blackburn's last three games, while under 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in six of the Lancashire club's previous nine league fixtures.

United have lost their last two away matches, failing to score in both of those defeats to Middlesbrough and Leeds.

Chris Wilder's side do not tend to be involved in high-scoring games as each of their last 11 fixtures across league and cup have featured no more than two goals.

The Blades have won six of their last eight clashes with Blackburn, but they have lost on their two most recent visits to Ewood Park.

Prediction

These two sides are both going along nicely in the Championship but much of their successes over recent weeks have been built on keeping things tight at the back.

Blackburn have kept clean-sheets in each of their last four league matches at Ewood Park and have not conceded a home goal in the Championship since Mark Harris' strike for Oxford at the end of August.

Only last season's bottom two, Huddersfield and Rotherham, conceded more Championship goals than Blackburn during 2023-24 and after losing leading scorer Sammie Szmodics to Ipswich over the summer, head coach John Eustace has had to set about making his side more resilient.

That new-found defensive solidity has come at a cost though, as Blackburn have drawn a blank in their last two games and have only scored more than once in one of their last seven.

It is a similar story for Sheffield United, who shipped a Premier League record 104 goals on the way to being relegated last season, but this term they have only let in six across their 12 matches – a record bettered only by Burnley.

With each of their last 11 games across all competitions featuring a maximum of two goals, Wilder has certainly turned his side into a tough nut to crack and there could be more of the same when they head to Ewood Park on Saturday.

Anyone hoping for goals this weekend may have to look elsewhere as this has all the makings of a tight, low-scoring contest and one goal, either way, may be enough to win it.
