Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany will be hoping for a return to winning ways in the Champions League

- Bayern Munich look set for the play-offs after suffering a shock 3-0 defeat to Feyenoord last time out
- Slovan Bratislava have lost all seven of their Champions League matches this season
- Recommended bet: Bayern Munich to win 5-1

Bayern Munich have had a patchy season in the new-look Champions League, despite starting their European campaign with a 9-2 rout of Dinamo Zagreb.

Away defeats to Aston Villa, Barcelona and Feyenoord mean Vincent Kompany's men are likely to end up in the play-off round rather than progress straight to the last 16.

They are red-hot favourites to win their final fixture at home to Slovan Bratislava, who have lost all seven of their Champions League matches this term, including a 5-1 defeat at Celtic in their opening game.

Team news

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is suspended after his red card against Feyenoord while midfielder Leon Goretzka, who is also banned, suffered a hamstring strain at the weekend.

Defenders Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano and Hiroki Ito are sidelined along with keeper Daniel Peretz.

Slovan Bratislava are missing veteran midfielder Juraj Kucka, who started all four of Slovakia's games at Euro 2024.

The stats

Harry Kane has scored 23 goals in all competitions for Bayern this season
Harry Kane has scored 23 goals in all competitions for Bayern this season

Five of Bayern's last seven wins in all competitions featured over 3.5 goals.

Bayern have scored inside the first 20 minutes in their last four Bundesliga home games

Three of Bayern's last five Champions League home results were 1-0 wins.

Bratislava have scored in five of their seven Champions League defeats this season.

Both teams have scored in 11 of Slovan's last 12 matches in all competitions.

Slovan have conceded 24 goals in seven Champions League matches this term.

Prediction

Bayern's chances of sneaking into the top eight are slim but they should be backed to ease past Bratislava.

Most of Bayern's problems this term have come away from home and they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord on matchday seven.

They tend to be ruthless on home turf, however, and they have established a six-point lead over champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, winning their last five matches.

That run includes a 5-0 home win over Hoffenheim and a 5-1 victory against RB Leipzig and the 5-1 correct score is worth a bet on Wednesday.

Slovan lost to Celtic by that scoreline on matchday one, before a 4-0 defeat at home to Manchester City, but they have been more competitive in recent reverses.

They lost 3-2 at home to Milan on matchday five before 3-1 defeats away to Atletico Madrid and at home to Stuttgart.

Slovan should be confident of getting on the scoresheet at the Allianz Arena although keeping Bayern's forwards quiet is likely to be beyond them.

The Bavarian giants are averaging 3.33 goals per home game in the Bundesliga this season and they should be far too sharp for the visiting defence on Wednesday.
