Extra-time goals from Aston Villa duo Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Ramsey saw England beat Israel 3-1 in the European Under-19 Championship final.

Ian Foster's outfit put in a disappointing first-half performance in Trnava, allowing the Blue and Whites to take the lead through Oscar Glokh five minutes before the break.

But the Young Lions roared back in the second period as Manchester City prospect Callum Doyle struck from close range on 52 minutes.

And they were ultimately too strong for Israel when the game went into extra-time, with Chukwuemeka chesting home before Ramsey sealed victory with four minutes left on the clock.

Foster, who took charge in 2020, said: "I'm thrilled to win the trophy and the boys are delighted to be European champions.

"My job is difficult because I can only pick so many players. But the ones we picked were desperate to come and you can see they love playing for England. We should be so proud of them.

"It takes time to get that spirit and togetherness, which they've got. It helps you cope with anything and the amount of support they give each other, the camaraderie in the group.

"It's probably the most together that I've seen a group."

It is the second time in five years England have won the competition, with Aaron Ramsdale and Mason Mount — now both full senior internationals — part of the side crowned champions in 2017.

Having won every single match in the tournament, Foster's men will look back on a job well done in Slovakia.

They beat Austria, Serbia, Italy and Israel on two occasions en route to glory.
