There are five Premier League matches taking place on Saturday, starting with the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Here are our expert writers’ top selections for each of those encounters.

Everton vs Liverpool (12:30pm)

Liverpool are unbeaten in 10 away games in all competitions and they have been impressive in the final third during this period, scoring a league-high 29 goals.

However, they have struggled defensively on their travels of late and have conceded nine strikes across the last four away fixtures, suggesting that Everton may be able to breach the backline at least once, albeit in defeat.

Aston Villa vs Southampton (3pm)

Wednesday's win over Brentford will have given everyone within the club at Aston Villa a huge lift, and with Ollie Watkins back amongst the goals, the Villans should prosper.

Southampton's away from suggests they will once again struggle, but with Villa vulnerable at the back, expect the visitors to find the net on their way to another defeat.

Brentford vs Newcastle (3pm)

Brentford have been close to perfect at home this term with six wins and one draw after seven league games.

Newcastle did win at this ground in the final round of fixtures last season but that is Brentford’s only home loss since February and they can avenge that defeat in this latest meeting.

Newcastle have lost two of their seven away games and both of those defeats have come in trips to London, with their solitary point in the capital coming at Crystal Palace in a game they were perhaps fortunate not to lose.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City (3pm)

Palace have lost just one of their last seven matches, holding Newcastle and Aston Villa to draws and beating Tottenham in that run, suggesting they will give a good account of themselves in this clash.

A big reason for Manchester City’s recent woes has been the absence of Rodri. The champions look far more permeable without the Spaniard, as shown by both teams scoring in five of their last six away games.

With that same bet landing in three of the past four meetings between the pair and the Eagles in good form, it could pay to side with the same selection on Saturday.

Manchester United vs Nottingham Forest (5.30pm)

Marcus Rashford has been one of the standout performers in the early stages of the Ruben Amorim era, netting three goals in his two starts under the Portuguese and he will be fancying his chances in this fixture having netted at the City Ground last term.

Forest have had problems down their left of late, conceding to Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes and Jeremy Doku of Manchester City in recent outings and Rashford is in just the right form to extend his impressive run and exploit any vacant space.
