Marcelino Nunez popped up with an 89th-minute equaliser to earn Norwich a deserved point in a 1-1 draw with QPR.

The Canaries looked to he heading for a home defeat until the Chilean midfielder produced an assured finish to cancel out an own goal from Ante Crnac just before the interval.

Rangers had defended bravely to protect their but in the end Norwich’s almost incessant attacking paid dividends, allowing Johannes Hoff Thorup’s men to pick up their fourth point of the festive period while the visitors only have one to their name.

A tight first half saw Rangers waste an excellent opportunity after just seven minutes when Lucas Andersen fired wide from a good position after being picked out by Kenneth Paal.

Norwich had plenty of the ball after that early scare but failed to seriously trouble keeper Paul Nardi.

The Frenchman comfortably gathered a well-struck shot from Anis Slimane while perhaps City’s clearest chance of the half saw Oscar Schwartau lift the ball over after Borja Sainz’s cross had only been half cleared.

It looked for all the world as though a quiet opening period would finish goalless until Rangers edged in front through an own goal deep into stoppage time. Paal’s inswinging corner from the right was delivered to the near post where it was deflected in off the arm of Crnac after Kenny McLean had leapt to challenge Jimmy Dunne.

Nardi produced a smart block to deny Sainz from close range as the Canaries started the second period on the front foot, with Shane Duffy then powering McLean’s corner against the crossbar.

Sainz also went close, shooting into the side-netting – when he really should have scored – after intercepting a square pass from the keeper.

It was all Norwich in the latter stages and they finally got the equaliser they deserved with one minute of normal time remaining.

Rangers were caught napping at a quick throw and the ball was worked across the faced before Onel Hernandez squared for Nunez to fire home from 10 yards out.

Almost immediately Duffy had a chance to win it for the hosts but lifted the ball over from close range.
