Ruben Amorim’s unbeaten start as Manchester United boss was brought to an abrupt end on Wednesday as his side struggled to get a foothold in their game against Arsenal, ultimately losing 2-0 at the Emirates.

Things had looked positive prior to that defeat, though, and they will be expecting to get back on track against Nottingham Forest, who have lost each of their last two away matches 3-0.

Team news

Jonny Evans missed United’s trip to Arsenal but is expected to be available for this clash, unlike Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof, who are both out with injuries.

Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are also back from suspension and both should feature from the start against Forest.

Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo are out until the New Year for the visitors, but there are no fresh injury concerns, while the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Elliot Anderson should return to the starting XI after dropping to the bench for the defeat at Manchester City.

The stats

Manchester United have won four home games in a row across all competitions, with three of those victories coming to nil.

Nottingham Forest have lost each of their last two away games 3-0.

Both teams to score has clicked in only three of this pair’s last 10 combined matches.

These sides have met seven times since 2022, with United winning six of those clashes.

Forest’s home win over the Red Devils last term was the first time they had avoided defeat against United since 1995

Prediction

In two home matches under Amorim, Manchester United have racked up seven goals and an expectant Old Trafford crowd will be hoping to see that scoring trend continue on Saturday.

There is a decent chance it will too, given Nuno Espirito Santo’s usually solid Nottingham Forest have gone five away matches without a clean sheet since their shock 1-0 win at Liverpool, shipping 10 goals in the process.

Forest also have a dismal record in this fixture, recording six losses and just one win in the sides’ seven meetings since 2022, suggesting it is the hosts who are set to dominate proceedings.

Marcus Rashford has been one of the standout performers in the early stages of the Amorim era, netting three goals in his two starts under the Portuguese, and he will be fancying his chances in this fixture having netted at the City Ground last term.

Forest have had problems down their left of late, conceding to Newcastle’s Harvey Barnes and Jeremy Doku of Manchester City in recent outings, and Rashford is in just the right form to extend his impressive run and exploit any vacant space.
