Manchester United insist Marcus Rashford "has taken responsibility for his actions" and the situation has been put to bed.

The 26-year-old was absent during training on Friday after reports suggested he was out late in Belfast last Thursday evening.

As a result, Rashford did not feature in Sunday's 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport but he is expected to be available to face Wolves on Thursday.

A club statement read: "Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions.

"This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed."

Before the game, Ten Hag admitted the reason for the absence was that he "reported ill."

But when questioned further on Rashford's activities during the week, he said: "Let us say it is an internal matter. I deal with it."

Former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: "Rashford hasn't helped himself.

"I think he'll outlast Ten Hag but this can't go on. Something has to give. He's shown he has no respect for Ten Hag or his team-mates. I think it's appalling.

"Everyone knows the line. This isn't his first misdemeanour. Why does he keep poking Ten Hag like this?"

Rashford has only scored four goals in the Premier League this term and looks unlikely to match his return of 17 last campaign.

Wolves will go ahead of United, who are in danger of missing out on European football next season, if they win later this week.
