Ipswich to win

There is still a fair way to go in this season's Premier League but there is a six-pointer on the cards on Saturday as bottom two Ipswich and Southampton meet at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys will look to recover from a tricky couple of weeks which has featured 6-0 and 4-1 defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool.

But they have the perfect opportunity to register three points on Saturday when they take on basement boys Southampton, who are 11 points off safety.

Similarly, Saints, who are targeting a first league win under Ivan Juric, could sniff an opportunity in East Anglia against an Ipswich team that have struggled on home soil.

Team news

Ipswich will be without Chiedozie Ogbene, Conor Chaplin, Wes Burns and Sammie Szmodics.

As for Southampton, new signing Albert Gronbaek could be involved for the first time but they will be without Tyler Dibling.

Jack Stephens, Ross Stewart, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Aaron Ramsdale will be assessed.

The stats

Southampton have lost 10 of their 12 away games in this season's Premier League, picking up a league-low two points on their travels.

Ipswich have won two of their last four home fixtures in all competitions, beating Chelsea and Bristol Rovers.

The Tractor Boys have also taken seven points from their last three games against Southampton going back to the start of the 2023-24 season in the Championship.

Liam Delap has bagged eight Premier League goals for Ipswich this season.

Prediction

There is no doubt Ipswich will view Saturday's game as a must-win fixture and Kieran McKenna's men should have enough about them to get over the line.

Ipswich's home record has been underwhelming this term — they have still won just one league fixture at Portman Road.

But Southampton's away record is even worse with just two points collected from 12 away days and they are 10 points behind their Suffolk counterparts.

Ipswich's form should be taken with a pinch of salt given their last two games were against a rejuvenated Man City side and a Liverpool team who cannot stop winning.

Before that pair of matches, Ipswich had lost just one of their previous four contests, recording wins against Chelsea and Bristol Rovers at home and drawing away to Fulham, who they came minutes away from beating.

Juric is yet to pick up a Premier League win as Saints boss and the wait could go on, with Ipswich set to nudge the south coast club closer to relegation.
