Doncaster returned to winning ways after a slender 1-0 home win over troubled Morecambe.

Grant McCann’s side bounced back after last week’s loss to Newport, but the Shrimps remain without a point, or even a goal, this season.

After a placid start, it was a touch of fortune that saw Rovers open the scoring in the 20th minute.

Midfielder Harry Clifton charged down visiting goalkeeper Stuart Moore, who was dawdling in possession, and the ball ricocheted straight into the net from just a few yards out.

The hosts were the more likely of the two sides to score next, with Jordan Gibson’s inventive effort cannoning back off the crossbar.

Morecambe boss Derek Adams was incensed when Rovers’ Brandon Fleming was not dismissed for a blatant foul on Gwion Edwards just before half-time, with the forward seemingly through on goal.

Referee Scott Tallis only handed down a yellow card to the loanee from Hull.

Clifton struck a post early in a dull second half as Rovers wrestled back control and searched for a second, but Morecambe were never a threat as the game ultimately petered out.
