Girona vs Arsenal predictions: Gunners can keep it clean in Catalonia
- Girona have drawn blanks in their last four Champions League games
- Arsenal have won three of their last four matches in all competitions
- Recommended bet: Under 0.5 Girona goals
It would take a remarkable set of results coupled with a swing in goal difference for Arsenal to miss out on the top eight in the league phase of the Champions League and they can book their spot in the last 16 on Wednesday.
The Gunners head into matchday eight in third place with 16 points, two behind Barcelona and five behind Liverpool.
They are all but qualified for the last 16 but Mikel Arteta will not let his side take their foot off the pedal when they visit already-eliminated Girona.
The Catalan hosts have lost six of their seven games in their debut Champions League campaign and will be eager to at least go out with a bang.
Team news
Girona are without injured pair Ladislav Krejci and Miguel Gutierrez, while former Tottenham talent Bryan Gil is suspended.
Arsenal have a number of absentees with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu all unavailable.
Due to illness, midfield pair Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino are also doubts for the Gunners.
The stats
Arsenal have won three of their last four games in all competitions, keeping clean sheets in their last two against Dinamo Zagreb and Wolves.
Girona have scored just three goals in their last four assignments in all competitions and have drawn blanks in each of their last four Champions League fixtures.
The Gunners have conceded only 21 times in 23 Premier League games this campaign.
Kai Havertz is Arsenal's top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions.
Prediction
Arsenal are unsurprisingly favourites to win and get the job done away to Girona but the best play in this game is to back the hosts not to score.
With Saka and Jesus out, Arsenal's attacking options are limited at the moment and they have had to adopt a more cautious style of play at times to grind out results.
That was the case on Saturday as they dug deep to win 1-0 against Wolves, despite playing a large portion of the match without Myles Lewis-Skelly, who had been controversially sent off.
Fortunately for the Gunners, they are pretty strong at the back, conceding only 21 times in the Premier League this term — less than a goal per game — and shutting out Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League last week.
Girona have already drawn blanks against PSV, Sturm Graz, Liverpool and AC Milan in the Champions League and they should also be kept out by the well-drilled Gunners.
