- Four of Newcastle’s last five away games have gone over 2.5 goals
- The same can be said of three of Crystal Palace’s last four matches
- Recommended bet:
Over 2.5 goals

Eddie Howe will be expecting an immediate reaction from his side after Newcastle’s shock 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Monday, but things are not guaranteed to get back on track at Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have lost just one of their last five games in all competitions and will be feeling buoyant after a draw at Aston Villa on Saturday. That clash in Birmingham was a 2-2 thriller and a similarly exciting clash can be expected at Selhurst Park this weekend.

Team news

Eddie Nketiah, Chadi Riad, Matheus Franca, Rob Holding and Adam Wharton remain in the treatment room for the hosts.

Daichi Kamada is still suspended and misses out too, but there is hope that Eberechi Eze may return in time to feature.

Newcastle’s Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes were forced off against West Ham and will need to be assessed.

Sven Botman, Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are still out but Dan Burn is back from suspension.

The stats

Alexander Isak has been in fine scoring form for Newcastle with four goals in his last five games
Alexander Isak has been in fine scoring form for Newcastle with four goals in his last five games

Four of Newcastle’s last five away games have gone over 2.5 goals.

The same bet has landed in three of Crystal Palace’s last four matches.

The Eagles have lost just one of their last five games in all competitions.

Harvey Barnes has scored in three of Newcastle’s last five away games.

Both teams have scored in six of the Magpies’ last seven road matches.

Prediction

It could be argued that both of these sides rode their luck in the last round of fixtures — Newcastle were split open regularly by West Ham while Palace gave up 3.0 expected goals to Aston Villa — and two shaky defences meeting at Selhurst Park could result in a goalfest, especially with the attacking talent on show.

Eberechi Eze could be a welcome returnee for the Eagles and would greatly increase their chances of victory while, despite an off night on Monday, Alexander Isak is in frightening form for the Magpies, scoring four times in five games.

Both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways and are likely to put on a thriller as a result, with over 2.5 goals an appealing selection for Saturday’s clash.

Four of Newcastle’s last five away games have gone over 2.5 goals and with the same bet landing in three of Palace’s four matches, it could pay to back the same selection this time around.
