- Wolves are without a win in nine away matches, losing six times in that run
- Recommended bet:
Aston Villa to win and both teams to score

1982 European Cup winners Aston Villa made a triumphant return to top-level European action by beating Young Boys 3-0 in their first ever Champions League game on Tuesday and they will expect to build on that against struggling Wolves.

After throwing away a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 to Newcastle last Sunday, Wolves have now gone seven league games without a win and Gary O’Neil needs to pick up some points soon before the growing pressure on his job security leads to a sacking.

Team news

Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings remain out for the hosts but Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey are expected to be fit enough to feature.

Long-term absentees Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez and Boubacar Traore are all missing for Wolves and could be joined on the sidelines by Rayan Ait-Nouri, Toti Gomes and Yerson Mosquera, all of whom will be assessed ahead of kick-off.

Aston Villa have won four of their five competitive matches this season.

Wolves are without a win in nine away matches, losing six times in that run.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in four of the last six meetings between this pair.

The Villans have gone eight home games without a clean sheet.

Jhon Duran has netted three goals in just 103 Premier League minutes this term.

Wolves have conceded 21 goals in their last seven Premier League matches.

Prediction

After finishing fourth last season, Aston Villa have wasted no time in getting back up to speed this time around, winning three of their opening four league games to sit fifth in the table.

The Villans showed immense grit and desire to come from two goals down to win 3-2 against Everton last Saturday and they may need that resilience again this weekend when welcoming Wolves to Villa Park.

While Villa have excelled going forward, their backline has looked vulnerable. Unai Emery’s men have conceded to Leicester and twice to Everton this term and have now gone eight home games without a clean sheet.

Given Villa’s defensive vulnerability and the fact both teams have scored in four of the last six meetings between the pair it could pay to back O’Neil’s men to net at Villa Park.

However, if Villa’s defence is vulnerable, then Wolves’ is practically non-existent as they have shipped 21 goals in their last seven league matches and may struggle to contain a potent Villans' attack for very long.

Jhon Duran is averaging a goal every 34 minutes in the Premier League this season and with Ollie Watkins back in form after a brace against Everton, the top-four chasing hosts can expect to outscore their struggling visitors on Saturday.
