Aston Villa to win

After securing a last-16 place in the Champions League, Aston Villa face a West Midlands derby at struggling Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.

Villa's 4-2 win over Celtic in midweek ensured they progressed straight to the last 16 in Europe and now Unai Emery's side switch focus back to domestic matters with a short trip to relegation-threatened Wolves.

Team news

Wolves' Joao Gomes is suspended after being sent off against Arsenal last week.

Boubacar Traore and Sasa Kalajdzic are set to miss out through injury for Vitor Pereira's side but it is hoped Mario Lemina will be able to return.

Enso Gonzalez and Yerson Mosquera remain out long-term.

Villa striker Jhon Duran is expected to complete a move to Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr before Saturday's clash, while Matty Cash was forced off in the first half against Celtic and is facing at least a fortnight on the sidelines.

injured quartet Tyrone Mings, Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley and Pau Torres are all set to miss out again for the visitors.

Wolves have lost all four of their league games in 2025, conceding 10 goals and scoring just once.

Wolves have only picked up seven points from 11 games at Molineux this season.

After a dismal run of five straight away defeats in the league throughout November and December, Villa have beaten Everton 1-0 and drawn 2-2 with Arsenal in their last two road trips.

Prediction

Aston Villa will be on a high after securing a last-16 place in the Champions League in midweek and they can follow up their victory over Celtic by seeing off Midlands rivals Wolves at Molineux.

Unai Emery's men are still in the hunt for a top-four place in the Premier League this season and are unbeaten in their last five games in the top flight.

Mixing progress in Europe with staying in contention towards the top of the table domestically was always going to be a challenge for Villa this season but they are making a decent attempt of it.

With Duran poised to complete a move to Saudi Arabia, Emery will hope the club can fend off interest from Arsenal for Ollie Watkins before the transfer window closes on Monday as losing both of those key men this month could end up derailing their campaign.

Wolves, meanwhile, remain in relegation trouble and head into the Villa clash on the back of four straight defeats.

Pereira's appointment just before Christmas had an initial positive impact but the energy generated by wins during the festive period over Leicester and Manchester United and a draw at Tottenham has since faded.
