West Brom to win and both teams to score

Blackburn have been in the headlines following the news that head coach John Eustace has been allowed to hold talks with Derby and the mood around the club is unlikely to improve when they head to West Brom on Wednesday.

Rovers start this midweek in the play-off places but have lost four of their last five games in the Championship and also went down 2-0 to Wolves in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Baggies have also had a recent change of manager, with former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray returning to another of his previous clubs following Carlos Corberan's move to Valencia.

Mowbray has won his two home games in charge and can make it a trio of victories against the out-of-form visitors.

Team news

West Brom striker Daryl Dike is close to returning following an Achilles injury, while Semi Ajayi is also nearing fitness after a hamstring issue, but neither will feature on Wednesday.

On-loan forwards Will Lankshear and Adam Armstrong could start in attack, with wingers Tom Fellows and Mikey Johnston set to provide service from out wide.

Blackburn midfielder Sondre Tronstad is absent with a hamstring injury, while Yuki Ohashi (ankle) and Arnor Sigurdsson (thigh) are also unavailable for the Lancashire club.

The stats

West Brom have won just one of the last six league meetings between the clubs, but that was a 4-1 victory in last season's edition of this fixture.

Blackburn have picked up just eight points from their last 11 games (W2, D2, L7) but have at least scored in three of their five away matches in that run.

The Baggies were defensively stingy under Corberan but have been more flamboyant under Mowbray and have yet to keep a clean sheet in his second spell at The Hawthorns.

Prediction

The uncertainty over the managerial situation at Ewood Park is likely to have negatively impacted a Blackburn squad already low on confidence following a poor run of results.

While they were losing to Wolves in the FA Cup over the weekend, West Brom boosted their promotion hopes with Saturday's 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Corberan was getting results but a combination of new loan forwards and Mowbray's preference for setting his teams up to attack might be the making of some of his forward players, who often found themselves isolated and occasionally bewildered by his Spanish predecessor's defence-first approach.

They already sit above Blackburn in the table and although they might have too much catching up to do to make the top four, every point looks set to count in the battle for the play-off spots.

The Baggies can extend their unbeaten home run to 12 with an eighth Hawthorns victory of the season.

However, their boss' positive approach means they may not do so with a clean sheet.
