- Tottenham have lost six of their last eight league fixtures
- Everton have kept clean sheets in four of their last six home games
- Recommended bet: Everton draw no bet

David Moyes’ second spell as Everton manager got off to a losing start, but the 61-year-old will be hoping for a more positive outcome when the Toffees take on Tottenham this weekend.

Everton’s struggles in front of goal continued in a 1-0 reverse at home to Aston Villa which left them precariously placed only one point above the drop zone.

It was the ninth time in the last 11 league games that Everton had failed to find the net, but they might be sensing an opportunity against Spurs, who have gone five top-flight matches without keeping a clean sheet.

Spurs remain in three cup competitions but they lost 2-1 away to bitter rivals Arsenal on Wednesday and are firmly entrenched in the bottom half of the league table.

Team news

Everton are without Timothy Iroegbunam, Armando Broja (both ankle), Youssef Chermiti (thigh), Seamus Coleman (calf), James Garner (back) and Dwight McNeil (knee).

Timo Werner (thigh) is the most recent addition to a Lilywhites injury list featuring Guglielmo Vicario (foot), Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert (all thigh) and Rodrigo Bentancur (concussion).

Richarlison came off the bench in the 2-1 defeat to the Gunners and is pushing for more minutes.

The stats

Everton have failed to score in five of their last seven Premier League home games.

Thirteen of Everton’s last 15 matches have generated less than three goals.

Three of Everton’s last five losses have been by a 1-0 scoreline.

Tottenham have lost four of their last five Premier League games.

Spurs have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five league fixtures.

Six of Tottenham’s last seven league matches have generated at least three goals.

Prediction

Everton are on a run of three straight Premier League losses for the first time since August, but they can stop the rot by defeating injury-hit Tottenham.

The Toffees have been dragged into a relegation battle and will be desperate to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three as soon as possible.

It is obvious to everyone that the Toffees are short of quality in attack, but they tend to be strong from set-pieces and that could give them the edge over Spurs, who never look comfortable whenever balls are slung into the penalty box.

Spurs are the Premier League’s second top scorers, but they looked ineffective for large parts of Wednesday’s 2-1 reverse at Arsenal and were probably fortunate to escape with a single-goal loss.

There seems to be a lack of energy and confidence in the Spurs ranks and that could lead to a second loss in five days for Ange Postecoglou and his side.
