Burton denied as Tola Showunmi rescues point for Crawley
Crawley’s winless League One run extended to six matches after Tola Showunmi rescued a 1-1 home draw against bottom-placed Burton.
Rumarn Burrell’s first-half goal threatened to give the Brewers their first win in six attempts under boss Gary Bowyer, but striker Showunmi struck 18 minutes from time.
The Red Devils, fourth from bottom and five points from safety, pushed for a winner and Armando Quitirna twice came close as Burton drew for the third time in the last four games.
Burton went ahead in the 25th minute as striker Burrell raced on to a long punt forward by Ryan Sweeney and coolly rounded keeper Jojo Wollacott before planting the ball in the net.
Brewers keeper Max Crocombe kept his team in front by turning a goal-bound shot from Will Swan round the post after the forward was set up by Jeremy Kelly.
Swan should have done better when he put a first-time shot over, with Crocombe having earlier kept a shot from Quitirna out with his legs.
Burrell had a chance to double Burton’s lead after keeper Wollacott was caught out of position, but Crawley’s equaliser arrived in the 72nd minute when Showunmi’s clever lofted finish from 15 yards gave Crocombe no chance.
