Alex Gilbey’s late goal gives MK Dons victory and means heartbreak for Harrogate
Alex Gilbey’s late winner saw MK Dons beat Harrogate 2-1 in the Sky Bet League Two contest at Stadium MK.
Joe White put MK Dons in front, only for Zico Asare’s deflected strike to seemingly rescue a point for Harrogate in added time.
Gilbey, however, had other ideas, thumping in moments later to grab Scott Lindsey’s men a first win in five games.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute, as Newcastle loanee White skipped past two defenders before thumping the ball home.
Harrogate nearly equalised when Oliver Sanderson saw a shot blocked by Charlie Waller, before Ellis Taylor hit the post with a deflected shot.
The visitors had half-chances after the break as Josh March and Bryant Bilongo missed the target, before Toby Sims hit the post.
The Dons came close when Waller’s header was denied by goalkeeper James Belshaw, before Joe Tomlinson’s shot was deflected narrowly wide.
Harrogate seemingly rescued a point in the first minute of added time when Asare’s deflected effort found the back of the net.
However, a firm strike from outside the box by Gilbey three minutes later won the game for MK Dons.
