West Brom vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions: Rohl can rock The Hawthorns
- West Brom are sixth after their shock 2-1 loss at Plymouth
- Wednesday drew 1-1 with Luton last weekend
- Recommended bet: Draw or Sheffield Wednesday Double Chance
Two away defeats in Tony Mowbray's three matches back in charge of West Brom has left the Baggies hanging on to a play-off place ahead of a visit from fast-improving Sheffield Wednesday.
Team news
Mowbray is almost certain to hand Adam Armstrong a start just a week after the striker was on the bench for Southampton at Ipswich in the Premier League.
Armstrong is seen as a missing piece up front with Josh Maja injured, while Will Lankshear, a young frontman from Tottenham, also signed on loan and is set for a place on the bench.
Armstrong will bump into namesake and former St Mary's colleague Stuart Armstrong, who is pushing for a first Sheffield Wednesday start after coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw against Luton.
Danny Rohl will again be relying on Michael Ihiekwe and Di'Shon Bernard in central defence, with Dominic Iorfa and Akin Famewo injured and no new defensive recruits having arrived during the winter transfer window.
The stats
West Brom have yet to draw in three games under Mowbray, but they still lead the Championship's stalemate charts with 14.
Wednesday are 10th in the standings but have conceded 46 league goals — only four sides, all in the bottom six, have let in more.
The Owls have lost just three of their last 16 matches in all competitions. They have won as many games away as West Brom have at home (6).
Prediction
Sheffield Wednesday, with nine away wins in the Championship and Carabao Cup combined, clearly do not mind a day out from Hillsborough and look more than capable of getting something from their trek to West Bromwich.
Twice victors over West Brom in the past 10 months — 3-0 in April last season and 3-2 in September, though both games were in South Yorkshire — the Owls clearly know how to beat the Midlanders.
And now sitting just two points adrift of Mowbray's men in the table, it is certainly questionable whether the hosts should be an odds-on shot.
Wednesday have won as many league games on the road as West Brom have at their own fortress.
And it is best not to get too carried away by the Baggies' 5-1 crushing of Portsmouth in front of their own fans two weeks ago. Pompey were absolutely awful that day.
Either side of that result, Mowbray has presided over a 2-0 loss at Middlesbrough and a more alarming 2-1 defeat at bottom-club Plymouth.
Mowbray will hope Adam Armstrong, twice a runner-up in the Championship Golden Boot stakes over the past five seasons, will quickly rediscover his touch.
But the truth is that there looks to be very little between the sides and West Brom's propensity to draw games —14 in all — makes the Draw or Sheffield Wednesday option on LiveScore Bet's Double Chance market look attractive.
