Bayern Munich are targeting a shock January move for Kalvin Phillips in a bid to strengthen their midfield options.

The Sun claim the England international, 27, is on Thomas Tuchel's radar after his prospects of regular football at Manchester City received another hammer blow.

Phillips was hoping Rodri's suspension would open up a spot for him at the base of City's midfield — but Pep Guardiola has benched him in both of their last two league games.

And with an exit appearing inevitable, a move to the Bundesliga could suit all parties.

Tuchel made his desire for another midfielder clear in the summer but a move for Joao Palhinha fell through in the final minutes of the transfer window.

He was also reportedly interested in Manchester United's Scott McTominay and Chelsea's Mason Mount.

And having sold Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool, the Bundesliga champions are likely to be active in January.

Phillips needs more first-team football to stake his claim for a place in Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 side.

And joining his international captain Harry Kane in Germany could be the solution.
