Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.

Brendan Rodgers laid bare the financial difficulties the Foxes are having to deal with earlier this week.

They must sell before they can buy — and Vardy, 35, has just a year left on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Despite starting only 20 games through injury last term, Vardy netted 15 times in the top flight to take his overall tally to 133.

Age has also proven no barrier for the late bloomer, who has scored more goals since he turned 30 (99) than any other Premier League player.

Rodgers insisted earlier in the year that he has no desire to sell the Leicester legend and that stance will only strengthen with James Maddison, Youri Tielemans, Wesley Fofana and Kasper Schmeichel all linked with moves.

But Chelsea are short of options up front with Romelu Lukaku heading back to Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner widely tipped to leave Stamford Bridge.

And it may well be a similar story at Old Trafford, with new boss Erik ten Hag in the market for attacking reinforcements.

90min say both have asked to be kept informed of any developments regarding the English marksman.

He rejected a move to Arsenal in 2016 after Leicester won the league, but may well be tempted to have a crack at a big six club before his fairytale career draws to a close.

Brentford’s £16.7million bid for Euro 2020 star Mikkel Damsgaard, 22, has been accepted by Sampdoria, say Sky Sports.

Manchester City are looking to sign Sergio Gomez, 21, from Anderlecht after their move for Marc Cucurella was usurped by Chelsea, according to The Times.

As well as moving for James Maddison, the Guardian believe Newcastle are also keen on his Leicester team-mate Harvey Barnes.
