Chelsea left it late to beef up their attacking options by luring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back to the Premier League.

The Blues announced the striker's return to English football nearly 90 minutes after the transfer window closed.

Aubameyang, 33, said: "I’m really happy. It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start.

"I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting."

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly added: "Pierre-Emerick is an elite striker with a proven track record in the Premier League and his arrival strengthens our squad, giving us new attacking options.

"We are thrilled to have him on board with us in the new era at Chelsea and we’re really looking forward to working with him."

The former Gabon international joined Barcelona earlier this year after Arsenal cancelled his contract but the Spanish giants cashed in amid ongoing financial concerns.

Chelsea are believed to have paid just over £10million to reunite the former Gunners skipper with boss Thomas Tuchel, who he previously played for at Borussia Dortmund.

And Auba is expected to be the focal point of a new-look forward line at Stamford Bridge as soon as he recovers from a broken jaw.

Chelsea have picked up just seven points from their opening five Premier League games and Raheem Sterling is the only attacker on the books to have opened his account for the season.

The summer signing started alongside Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in a three-man attack in each of those games but his team-mates failed to fire.

And the responsibility of finding the net on a regular basis will now fall on the shoulders of Aubameyang, who bagged 79 goals in two seasons under Tuchel in Germany.
