Draw

After a much-changed Tottenham side edged out Coventry in the Carabao Cup, they return to Premier League action with a home clash against Brentford on Saturday.

Spurs left it very late to progress to the fourth round of the League Cup with two goals in the final two minutes earning them a 2-1 victory over the Sky Blues, while the Bees also came from behind to knock out Leyton Orient, winning 3-1 in the same competition on Tuesday.

Team news

After making wholesale changes for the Coventry trip, Ange Postecoglou will bring back his first-team regulars on Saturday, with Heung-Min Son, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski among those expected to be recalled.

Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner were both forced off in midweek with Odobert's injury the more serious so he is set to be absent, while Yves Bissouma is a major doubt and Richarlison is still unavailable.

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is set to be out for around two months with the ankle injury he sustained against Manchester City last week in what is a major blow for Thomas Frank, who is set to turn to Kevin Schade to replace him.

Fabio Carvalho is pushing for a start after scoring against Orient, but Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Igor Thiago, Gustavo Nunes, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry are all still sidelined for the visitors.

The stats

Tottenham have only won two of their last five home league matches.

Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have both scored three times for Brentford in the Premier League this season.

Brentford have only failed to score in one of their six games in all competitions this term.

Last season, the Bees drew 2-2 at home with Spurs, while the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended up in a narrow 3-2 victory for the hosts.

Prediction

Tottenham were fortunate to beat Coventry in the cup but it was a much-needed win following successive defeats in the league to Newcastle and Arsenal and they will be determined to build on it by seeing off Brentford at home.

Ange Postecoglou's side have been inconsistent so far this season with just one victory from their first four in the top flight — a 4-0 rout of Everton at home — and last weekend's 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the North London Derby was a big disappointment.

They are favourites to get the better of the Bees but Frank's side have made a solid start with wins over Southampton and Crystal Palace and they were competitive when losing 2-0 at Liverpool and, last week, 2-1 at champions Manchester City.

Brentford went in front at the Etihad and wasted good chances to extend their lead before City recovered and a trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they look good enough to pick up a draw, will not faze them.
