- Just one of Tottenham’s last 15 home league games featured fewer than three goals

Over 3.5 goals

Sunday is derby day in north London and Arsenal will be desperate for three points at Tottenham after their 1-1 draw with Brighton allowed Manchester City and Liverpool to gain an advantage in the early weeks of the Premier League season.

MIkel Arteta’s side have won on their last two visits to Spurs, who have yet to get going this term despite beating struggling Everton 4-0 in their only home match so far.

Team news

Richarlison is the only confirmed Tottenham absentee as the home side remain hopeful that Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven and Yves Bissouma can all come through fitness tests.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is suspended after his red card against Brighton, while skipper Martin Odegaard was injured while on international duty.

The Gunners hope to have defender Riccardo Calafiori and striker Gabriel Jesus available but Takehiro Tomiyasu, Mikel Merino and Kieran Tierney are all out.

The stats

Heung-Min Son has a good scoring record against Arsenal and he may have Dominic Solanke's support in the front line

Four of the last six north London derbies have produced at least four goals.

Tottenham have won just one of their last seven games against Arsenal.

Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in eight of their last nine league away matches.

Both teams have scored in 15 of Spurs’ last 18 league games on their own patch.

Heung-Min Son has scored seven goals in his last nine outings against the Gunners.

Prediction

Some derbies can be nervy and fail to catch fire, but that rarely happens in north London and there is a strong chance Sunday’s meeting will be another goal-filled encounter.

The emphasis is on both teams to attack and Arsenal will undoubtedly look to follow the recipe they had last season when they stormed into a three-goal half-time lead before holding their nerve to claim a 3-2 success.

Spurs fans had been used to seeing their team see off their arch-rivals on their own patch, but they have failed to win six of the last seven derbies and their supporters will demand a positive performance.

It is difficult to imagine Ange Postecoglou ordering his team to hold back and they can be liable to the odd defensive slip-up, which will be good news for goal backers.

They were the better side against Leicester in their opening game when they created a host of chances but were pegged back to a 1-1 draw and Dominic Solanke’s possible return would be a big boost.

It all adds up to an entertaining encounter and there looks a strong chance that, like four of the last six meetings, there will be more than three goals.
