Inter vs RB Leipzig predictions: Nerazzurri expect to overcome Germans
Inter have won three of their four Champions League matches
RB Leipzig have lost all four European games this season
Recommended bet: Inter to win to nil
The Champions League returns on Tuesday after a two-week break and Italian champions Inter Milan will be hoping to pick up where they left off when they host a RB Leipzig side that has suffered a major downturn in form in recent weeks.
The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in this season’s competition and are firmly in the mix to challenge for successive Scudetto titles, with Simone Inzaghi’s men level on points with Atalanta at the top of Serie A.
Marco Rose’s Leipzig, meanwhile, are yet to pick up a point in Europe and a run of three defeats from their last four – including an agonising 4-3 defeat at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday – does not bode well for a positive result on Tuesday night.
Team news
Inzaghi could be without talismanic striker and captain Lautaro Martinez for this contest as the Argentine fights off a virus, with the likes of Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic in line to fill the void.
Defender Francesco Acerbi and midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu are also nursing injuries and are not expected to feature at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Rose has a number of players out with injuries, with Xavi Simons, Chadaille Bitshiabu and David Raum all likely to miss out.
They are joined by Yussuf Poulsen and Eljif Elmas on the treatment table after that duo picked up knocks on international duty.
The stats
The is the first competitive meeting between the two sides.
Inter are one of two sides in this season’s Champions League yet to concede a goal.
The Nerazzurri head into this contest on a run of 11 games without defeat, including nine wins.
Leipzig have lost each of their last three away matches, despite scoring five goals across this run.
No side has scored more goals in the Champions League without registering a point than RB Leipzig.
Prediction
Inter Milan have thoroughly impressed this season and the Nerazzurri should be able to continue their fine form against Leipzig on Tuesday.
Inzaghi’s men thrashed Verona 5-0 at the weekend – with all five goals coming in the first half – while they have only lost one match at home in 2024, coming against arch-rivals AC Milan in a 2-1 defeat in September.
Leipzig may be finding the back of the net with ease, but their hapless defending has seen them fall away from the Bundesliga title picture, with eight points now separating them and runaway leaders Bayern Munich.
Against a sterner defensive unit, Leipzig may not have much jot and Inter could not only take home all three points but also frustrate the visitors in a goalless visit.
