- Hull have won only one of their last 15 league meetings with Bristol City
- The Tigers have won just two of their last 10 home games in the Championship
- Recommended bet:
Bristol City to win

Hull and Bristol City were play-off contenders for long periods last term but both ultimately missed out.

The two clubs will hope they can mount another challenge in 2024-25, but in week one of the new season it is the visiting Robins rather than the hosts who appear to hold the aces.

Team news

Ryan Longman, Abdus Omur and Oscar Estupinan all came off injured in Hull's final friendly, joining skipper Lewie Coyle and Dogukan Sinik on the sidelines.

New Tigers boss Tim Walter has chiefly used a 4-3-3 formation in pre-season but is struggling to fill his bench.

Rob Atkinson, Adam Murphy and new striker Yu Hirakawa will be missing for Bristol City through injury. Tommy Conway, linked with a move elsewhere, will not be involved.

Robins head coach Liam Manning should continue with his favoured 3-4-3 formation.

The stats

Hull and Bristol City drew 1-1 at the MKM Stadium last season.

Hull have won only one of their last 15 league meetings with Bristol City.

The Tigers have won just two of their last 10 home games in the Championship. Bristol City finished last season failing to win nine of their final 11 road trips.

Prediction

Bristol City won only six times on their travels during 2023-24 but can kick off 2024-25 with a road success at a vulnerable Hull.

This looks like an ideal time to be tackling the Tigers, who have seen an exodus of class players off their books as well as highly-regarded manager Liam Rosenior.

It was Rosenior who took Hull to the verge of the play-offs at the end of a season, as they beat the likes of Leicester and Southampton and won plenty of admirers.

Rosenior has now gone though, to be replaced by German Tim Walter, who has already made it clear that his squad is threadbare and, if they want to challenge for promotion, a lot more new signings will be needed.

All of which means that Bristol City are probably heading to Humberside at a good time and look a decent price at 11/5 with LiveScore Bet.

Bristol City made strides last term under Liam Manning and four wins and a draw in pre-season — compared to Hull winning none of their six friendlies — adds further credence to backing the Robins to make a winning start.
