There’s no football at the European Championship today, putting the focus squarely on the transfer market.

It has been a relatively quiet summer so far, but there are plenty of rumours across Europe that could develop in the coming weeks.

We’ve rounded up the best of the gossip involving nations still involved at Euro 2020.

Donyell deal

Liverpool have opened talks with PSV Eindhoven about their Dutch forward Donyell Malen, who has been labelled ‘the new Mohamed Salah’.

Malen netted 27 times for PSV in the Eredivisie last season and has continued his sparkling form at the European Championship, providing assists against both Austria and North Macedonia.

According to reports in Germany, Liverpool would be required to pay in the region of £34million for Malen.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options with Salah and Sadio Mane both set to miss matches in January due to the African Cup of Nations.

Arrivederci Alba

Barcelona are open to a deal that would see Spain vice-captain Jordi Alba move to Inter Milan and Italy’s Alessandro Bastoni move to the Camp Nou.

However, Alba, 32, won’t entertain the idea of leaving the Catalan club this summer.

Barca are trying to revamp their squad for minimal cost and have so far focused on free transfers with Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia all joining.

Alba is contracted to Barca until 2024 but the left-back is one of the club’s highest earners and reports claim the club are keen to get him off the books.

Braithwaite battle

Denmark forward Martin Braithwaite is a target for Premier League sides Brighton, Burnley, West Ham and Norwich.

The 30-year-old Barcelona forward was already on the periphery at Camp Nou, and the arrivals of Depay and Aguero have done nothing to strengthen his position.

Braithwaite previously played in England with Middlesbrough, scoring eight times in the Championship between August 2017 and January 2018.

Signed from Leganes in January 2019, the versatile forward has scored just three LaLiga goals in 15 starts for Barca since.

Xhaka delay

Roma’s pursuit of Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka is ongoing, with talks stuck on bonus payments.

The 28-year-old Arsenal midfielder is expected to join Jose Mourinho as one of his first signings this summer.

However, the deal is being held up by discussions over performance and appearance-related clauses which would see the deal rise in value to around £15.4m.

Roma, though, are refusing to budge on an offer worth £12.8m which is inclusive of bonuses.

Xhaka has already agreed a four-year deal worth £2.1m a year.

Grealish going nowhere

Jack Grealish is just one of several England players linked with a big move this summer — but Aston Villa are confident they can hold onto their captain.

The forward, who finally made his first start of Euro 2020 in the Three Lions’ 1-0 win over the Czech Republic, has drawn interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, the Villans are reportedly adamant they can resist offers for their 25-year-old talisman.

Grealish scored six and set up a further 10 goals last season and no-one in the Premier League contributed more goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (0.86) than Villa’s No10.
