Callum Stead struck the only goal as Barnet claimed a 1-0 National League victory at Tamworth to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points.

Stead volleyed home his 10th league goal of the season from Zak Brunt’s cross – nine minutes before half-time – and that was enough to seal the Bees a fourth-straight league win.

Brunt fired just wide from the edge of the penalty area early in the second half as Barnet, who stretched their unbeaten league run to 21 matches, chased a second goal before Tamworth enjoyed a spell of pressure.

Bees goalkeeper Owen Evans, a recent loan signing from Cheltenham, superbly kept out Ben Milnes’ free-kick before opposite number Jas Singh made two crucial saves of his own.

Tamworth defender Jordan Cullinane-Liburd was sent off for his second yellow card in the closing stages.
