Promotion hopefuls Notts County returned to winning ways and snapped Grimsby’s eight-game unbeaten run with a 2-0 League Two victory at Blundell Park.
Alassana Jatta scored the opener – his 17th of the league campaign – early in the second half before David McGoldrick added a second late as Stuart Maynard’s side won away for the first time in over a month.
The visitors were forced to change their goalkeeper in the 10th minute, Sam Slocombe replacing Alex Bass, who fell awkwardly as he collected the ball in the air from a free-kick.
Danny Rose tested Slocombe early as he was slid in to shoot by Jayden Luker, forcing the County goalkeeper down to his left to keep the scores level.
The away side did not have a shot on target in the first half, but they went ahead in the 55th minute as Jatta nodded the ball in off the woodwork after a couple of attempts were kept out initially from a free-kick.
McGoldrick scored from outside the box in the 88th minute to seal all three points for the Magpies, who moved up a spot to fourth.
