Harry Clifton’s late strike saw Doncaster edge out improving Harrogate with a 1-0 victory at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Promotion-chasing Rovers had the better of the play but found Harrogate a tough nut to crack, with the visitors creating the better chances throughout.

It was a dominant Doncaster display in the first half, but Harrogate arguably should have gone into the break ahead.

Josh March executed a good overhead kick eight yards out only to be denied with an excellent save from Ted Sharman-Lowe.

Fulham loanee Oliver Sanderson then skied a shot over the crossbar from a glorious position as he met a March cross.

Anthony O’Connor powered a header on goal from a Bryn Morris free-kick, with Sharman-Lowe making another fine save in the last act of the opening 45 minutes.

Harrogate emerged strong in the early stages of the second half but Rovers wrestled control once more, without troubling the visiting defence too much.

Substitute Clifton struck in the 86th minute when he collected the ball 20 yards out, turned and drove a low shot which squirmed under Harrogate goalkeeper James Belshaw.
