Newcastle's Lewis Miley became one of the youngest scorers in Premier League history when he netted against Fulham last weekend.

The midfielder was aged just 17 years and 229 days as he notched his first goal for the Magpies.

Yet there have been seven players who were younger when they struck in the English top flight, with some fulfilling their potential to enjoy spectacular careers and others falling by the wayside.

Here are the youngest ever Premier League goalscorers.

7. Federico Macheda — Manchester United

Federico Macheda was aged 17 years and 226 days when he opened his Manchester United account with a memorable goal against Aston Villa in the 2008-09 season.

Now playing for Ankaragucu in Turkey, it was not the start of a glittering career. After a number of loans, the striker left Old Trafford in 2014 having only scored five times for the Red Devils.

6. Andy Turner — Tottenham

Andy Turner became the Premier League's youngest ever scorer when he found the net against Everton aged 17 years and 166 days in the 1992-93 season. He would net four times that campaign.

Yet the winger was not destined for great things at Tottenham and instead spent most of his career in the Football League, playing for Portsmouth and Crystal Palace among others.

5. Michael Owen — Liverpool

The record was broken again when Michael Owen netted on his debut for Liverpool against Wimbledon at the end of the 1996-97 season, aged 17 years and 143 days.

Though injuries stopped him from living up to his enormous potential, he still had a remarkable career, winning the Ballon d'Or and scoring 40 goals for England.

4. Cesc Fabregas — Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas was aged 17 years and 113 days when he scored his first goal for Arsenal against Blackburn at the start of the 2004-05 season.

It was the beginning of a glittering career in which he won LaLiga and Premier League titles, along with a World Cup and two European Championships with Spain.

3. Wayne Rooney — Everton

This is the one you all remember. Wayne Rooney announced himself to the world with a stunning last-minute goal against Arsenal in 2002-03, aged 16 years and 360 days old.

Having become the youngest player to score in the Premier League, he would go on to win multiple trophies and become United and England’s all-time record goalscorer.

2. James Milner — Leeds

Rooney's record did not last long as James Milner also broke it in the 2002-03 season with his goal for Leeds against Sunderland aged 16 years and 356 days.

Remarkably, he is still playing in the Premier League at Brighton 21 years later, having won every major honour available during his time at Manchester City and Liverpool.

1. James Vaughan — Everton

The youngest scorer in Premier League history is a player that you could be forgiven for forgetting.

James Vaughan was just 16 years and 270 days old when he scored for Everton against Crystal Palace in the 2004-05 season.

The Toffees did not have another Rooney on their hands. Injuries derailed his career and his most prolific spells came at lower league clubs Bury and Tranmere.
