Burnley are very much in touch at the top of the Championship and, ahead of Sunday's trip to Norwich, look in good shape to compete for one of the automatic promotion places in the second half of the season.

Scott Parker's side have not lost since early November and they should have too much for a Norwich side that are are off the pace in mid-table and have failed to win – or score – in their last two games.

Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed he has no fresh injury concerns for the this clash, but says he plans to rotate "just a little bit" in order to keep players as fresh as possible for the busy festive period coming up.

Liam Gibbs, Gabriel Forsyth and Josh Sargent are all still on the sidelines injured for the Canaries.

For Burnley, their injury problems show no immediate sign of easing as Lyle Foster, Jordan Beyer, Manuel Benson and Mike Tresor all remain in the treatment room.

Aaron Ramsey and John Egan, meanwhile, are out longer-term for the Clarets.

Burnley are on a seven-game unbeaten streak but they have drawn their last two games, against Middlesbrough and Derby.

The Clarets have picked up 18 points away from home this season, with only Sheffield United (19) earning more than them in the division (before this weekend's games).

Only five teams – Luton, Sheffield Wednesday, QPR, Cardiff and Coventry – have conceded more goals at home than Norwich in the Championship this season.

Norwich lost 3-0 at QPR and drew 0-0 at Portsmouth in their last two league fixtures.

The last time the two sides were both in the Championship was in the 2022-23 season and Burnley did the double over Norwich, winning 3-0 at Carrow Road and 1-0 at Turf Moor.

Prediction

While both clubs would have held realistic promotion ambitions at the start of the season, it is Burnley, under the astute leadership of Parker, who look much more capable of lasting the pace in the arduous second-tier scrap to go up.

With an abundance of similarly-matched teams all vying for just two places, there are bound to be twists and turns at the top, but the Clarets have enough quality to sustain a promotion bid.

However, after two consecutive draws, three points are required at Carrow Road on Sunday.

City, who are still in with a chance of at least a play-off place this season, have stumbled over the autumn and winter so far, losing three games on the spin to Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City in November to damage their ambitions.

They have since got mostly back on track, with big wins over Plymouth and Luton, but then last week's 3-0 setback at QPR will have been alarming.

Up against a side of the calibre of the Clarets, the Canaries could struggle again this weekend and an away win seems the most plausible outcome.
