Daniel Farke's Leeds can go back to the top of the table with a win on Sunday

- Leeds have the best home record in the Championship
- Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win their last three away games in all competitions
- Recommended bet:
Leeds to win 2-0

Burnley and Sunderland's goalless draw on Friday will have pleased Leeds supporters but they fell to second in the Championship on Saturday after Sheffield United's 2-0 win over Norwich.

It is the Whites' turn on Sunday as they host Sheffield Wednesday and Daniel Farke's team are likely to have to earn the victory that will return them to the top of the standings.

The Owls have lost only two of their last 11 games in the league and know a win at Elland Road will take them to within two points of the play-offs.

However, goal difference means Farke's side have the Championship's best home record ahead of the Blades, and they can win by a familiar scoreline on Sunday.

Team news

Leeds defender Pascal Struijk is out until at least February with a hamstring problem, joining Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo, who are sidelined with similar issues.

However, Joel Piroe is available again after missing the 1-0 FA Cup win over Harrogate Town and Ilia Gruev, who returned from a knee injury as a late substitute in that match, is also in contention.

Wednesday also have their issues, with Yan Valery (knee), Dominic Iorfa (hamstring) and Akin Famewo (muscle) all missing.

Michael Ihiekwe and Olaf Kobacki are doubts due to a lack of match sharpness following Achilles and muscle injuries, respectively.

The stats

Leeds are unbeaten in their last 17 league games against fellow Yorkshire clubs (W12 D5) and have kept 11 clean sheets in that run.

Wednesday have won five of their last eight away league games and have lost just one of their last four visits to Elland Road.

However, Leeds have won the last two meetings 2-0, while one or both of the sides have failed to score in the last six meetings.

Dutch forward Piroe is Leeds' top scorer with 10 goals and is the only player to record double-figure goal tallies in the last four Championship seasons.

Wednesday's leading scorer is Josh Windass. He has also netted on 10 occasions.

Prediction

Sheffield Wednesday are pushing for the play-offs under Danny Rohl
Sheffield Wednesday are pushing for the play-offs under Danny Rohl

Leeds have won 10 of their 13 home league games and also squeezed past Harrogate at Ellan Road in the FA Cup last Saturday.

Danny Rohl's visitors lost on penalties at Coventry but after only narrowly avoiding relegation last term, their flirtation with the play-off spots shows what a good job the German is doing.

While a top-six finish would be a wonderful achievement for Rohl, it is the bare minimum expected of his compatriot Farke's team following Leeds' loss in last season's Wembley final.

A victory on Sunday will see them return to the top of the table and their record against fellow Yorkshire outfits is on their side.

However, with a home win heavy odds-on, it is worth mining recent history to look for something extra.

The Whites have kept eight home clean sheets in the league and a familiar scoreline is well worth consideration.
