AC Milan found themselves struggling in this season’s Champions League after losing their first two games against Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, but five straight victories have put them in a strong position to claim a top-eight place heading into Wednesday’s clash against Dinamo Zagreb.

Zagreb have won two of their seven games and still have a chance of making the play-offs, but they have been found wanting against elite opposition at Europe’s top table this term.

Team news

Dinamo striker Bruno Petkovic and midfielder Petar Sucic are out for the Croatian outfit.

Emerson Royal and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are injured for Milan, who are also missing the suspended Davide Calabria.

New signing Kyle Walker is ineligible having not been registered in time for the fixture.

Dinamo have not won any of their last five Champions League home games.

Milan have won all six of their games against Dinamo.

The Rossoneri have won their last five Champions League matches.

Nine of Milan’s last 11 Champions League games have featured at least three goals.

Zagreb’s seven games in the competition this season have featured 28 goals.

Prediction

The pressure was on AC Milan in the Champions League after they lost their first two games of the League Phase, but Sergio Conceicao’s team have got their act together and should confirm their place in the last-16 stage with a comfortable win over Zagreb.

The Rossoneri have recovered from losses to Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen to post five successive victories, the most impressive being a 3-1 victory at holders Real Madrid.

A top-eight place is there for the taking and they also scored three goals on a visit to Slovan Bratislava, so a comprehensive victory in Croatia should be well within their scope.

Their opponents, managed by legendary Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro, battled their way through the qualifying stage to reach the new league format, but they had a rude awakening when they were thumped 9-2 at Bayern Munich.

They still have a chance of reaching the play-offs as they are two points behind Stuttgart, who occupy 24th spot, but anything less than a win will not be enough and their two victories have come against Bratislava and Salzburg, who have just one success between them from the opening seven rounds of games.

Both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have scored three goals in victories over Dinamo and there looks a strong chance that Milan, who have lost two of their last 10 away games, can do the same on Wednesday.
