Liverpool face a big test at in-form Bournemouth on Saturday but the Reds should come through it to once again underline their title credentials.

After a much-changed team slipped to a 3-2 defeat in the Champions League at PSV Eindhoven in midweek, Liverpool resume domestic duties against a Cherries side that is on a superb 11-game unbeaten run in the league and one that has hammered Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks.

Team news

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola could name the same side that took Nottingham Forest apart last weekend as the Spanish coach continues to be without a host of injured players.

Alex Scott, Luis Sinisterra and Adam Smith are thought to be the closest to returning to action, while Evanilson, Enes Unal, Julio Soler, Marcos Senesi, Julian Araujo and James Hill are all still on the sidelines.

Arne Slot opted to rest virtually all of his first-team regulars at PSV in midweek, so Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah will be among Liverpool's star players returning to face Bournemouth.

Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones are all making good progress from injury, but remain major doubts for the trip to the south coast.

The stats

Bournemouth's 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League has been made up of seven wins and four draws.

The Cherries have beaten four of the current top five this season, seeing off Manchester City, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest at home and Newcastle away.

Bournemouth have only ever beaten Liverpool twice in their history, both times at home, in December 2016 and March 2023.

Liverpool are unbeaten on the road in the league this term, winning eight and drawing three times.

Salah is the Premier League's top-scorer with 19 goals this season.

Salah has scored nine goals against Bournemouth in 11 appearances.

Prediction

Bournemouth's recent form means leaders Liverpool will be bracing themselves for a stiff examination at the Vitality Stadium — where Andoni Iraola's side have already beaten Manchester City, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest this season.

The Cherries come into the game on a high after following up a stunning 4-1 win at Newcastle with a 5-0 home demolition of high-flying Forest and they are sure to test Slot's side.

However, Liverpool have rarely looked like stumbling this season and they remain well clear at the top of the table after back-to-back successes over Brentford and Ipswich.

Little can be read into Wednesday's Champions League defeat at PSV, where the outcome did not affect them finishing top of the table in Europe, as a largely second-string side took to the field in the Netherlands.

The visitors may have to dig deep to secure all three points but they can once again be inspired by Salah, who has scored in his last two appearances and will be fresh after being rested in midweek.
